PARTAFORMS
Kim Jespersen

Self-taught, Kim Jespersen enjoys the process of creating new forms. She is also inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell, Alberto Giacometti, Jean-Yves Gosti, Gerard Cambon, Sophie Rocco, Andre Breton, Max Ernst, and Alan Magee.
Kim had a hard time describing her work at first. Her solution was to create a new word, PARTAFORMS, to define the assemblages she creates in her workshops in Round Pond, Maine and Seillans, France.
The best part for Kim? The hunt for unusual bits and pieces.
At a junkyard outside of Taos, New Mexico, the hand-written sign at the entrance said, “Beware of Rattlesnakes”. Kim asked the old guy running the place if they had any snakes. He looked her over carefully then asked, “How many you want?”
Flea markets in Maine and vide-greniers in the south of France are also a rich source of material. After many years, the venders know Kim by name, and they save up old stuff to give to her. Un Cadeau, a gift for you, they call out.
Wherever found, each piece is carefully examined and researched. Some go immediately onto her workbench while others are stored away for another day, or a new idea. There is never a preconceived idea for Kim’s work. They just come together, and in their own good time.
